You are pregnant, and you cannot or do not want to keep the pregnancy? At our clinics, you can have an abortion up to 22 weeks.

Our team of female doctors and nurses will be there for you and guide you through every step of your treatment. We always respect your decision and do not judge you. We also help and advise you in choosing proper contraception. Our care is absolutely anonymous and (for most women) free of charge.

Abortion Clinics Amsterdam & Haarlem is a partnership of two abortion clinics: Bloemenhove Clinic in the Haarlem region (Heemstede) and Abortion Clinic Amsterdam. For more than 50 years, we have offered specialised help with abortion in the first and second trimester.

Prices of abortion treatment

Do you live or work in the Netherlands? Then you probably won’t have to pay for your abortion treatment. Therefore, always bring your health care ID card or policy document when you visit us.

No referral, no reflection period


From 1 January 2023, the reflection period for abortion has been abolished and you can make an appointment directly with us. You do not need a doctor’s referral.

You are 4 to 5 weeks pregnant

You are a maximum of 6 days late and your pregnancy is still very early. If you haven’t taken a pregnancy test yet, buy one at the chemist’s or pharmacy. Is the test positive? Book an appointment at one of our clinics. Is the test negative? Take one again in a few days’ time and use your morning urine.

We can offer treatment from the moment your pregnancy is visible on the ultrasound scan, usually between 5 and 6 weeks of pregnancy. You can choose between the abortion pill and suction curettage. Suction curettage is performed under anaesthetic. You can choose local or light anaesthetic (i.e. light sedation, which means that you sleep briefly).

You are 5 to 8 weeks pregnant

If you want to terminate the pregnancy, you can choose either the abortion pill or suction curettage. Suction curettage is performed under anaesthetic. You can choose local or light anaesthetic (i.e. light sedation, which means that you sleep briefly).

You are 9 to 12 weeks pregnant

If you want to terminate the pregnancy, this is done with suction curettage. Suction curettage is performed under anaesthetic. You can choose local or light anaesthetic (i.e. light sedation, which means that you sleep briefly). An abortion pill treatment is no longer an option.

You are 13 to 17 weeks pregnant

A pregnancy termination of 13 weeks or more is called a second trimester treatment. The abortion is carried out with the use of some surgical instruments. The treatment is usually performed under light sedation. An abortion pill treatment is no longer an option.

You are 18 weeks pregnant or longer

A pregnancy termination of 18 weeks or more is called a late second trimester treatment. The abortion is carried out with the use of some surgical instruments. The treatment is performed under light sedation.

Did you have your last menstruation 21 weeks ago or longer? We advise you to have an ultrasound scan to determine the exact pregnancy stage. After 22 weeks of pregnancy, an abortion is not possible at an abortion clinic.

The sexual contact was shorter than 3 weeks ago.

For pregnancies up to 12 weeks (CRL from 22 millimetres/BPD up to 23 millimetres) suction curettage is used for the abortion. Suction curettage is performed under anaesthetic. You can choose local or light anaesthetic (i.e. light sedation, which means that you sleep briefly). An abortion pill treatment is no longer an option.

On the day of the ultrasound scan, you were 13 to 17 weeks pregnant.

A termination of pregnancies from 13 to 18 weeks (BPD of 24 to 42 millimetres/FL of 11 to 26 millimetres) is called a second trimester abortion. The abortion is carried out with the use of some surgical instruments. The treatment is usually performed under light sedation. An abortion pill treatment is no longer an option.

On the day of the ultrasound scan, you were 18 weeks pregnant or more.

A termination of pregnancies from 18 weeks or more (BPD of 43 to 56 millimetres/FL of 27 to 38 millimetres) is called a late second trimester abortion. The abortion is carried out with the use of some surgical instruments. The treatment is performed under light sedation.

Did you have your last menstruation 21 weeks ago or longer? We advise you to have an ultrasound scan to determine the exact pregnancy stage. After 22 weeks of pregnancy, an abortion is not possible at an abortion clinic. Treatment at our clinic in Heemstede is possible for a BPD up to 56 millimetres and an FL up to 38 millimetres.
